Bureau of Customs – Port of Subic seizes another batch of smuggled agricultural products worth Php 37 million consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading and JKJ International Co. on Dec. 21, 2021.

As a result of the conduct of intensive profiling of shipments with similar declarations and suspected to contain misdeclared or undeclared agricultural products, Maritess Martin, District Collector of the Port, ordered the issuance of Pre-Lodgement Control Orders against the above-mentioned shipments.

Physical examination of 9×40’ container shipment consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading declared as 4,050 packages of “anti-bacterial wet wipes” resulted to the discovery of refined sugar.

On the other hand, examination of 10×40’ container shipments consigned to JKJ International Co. declared as “mantou” and “egg tarts” yielded fresh red onions estimated to have a market value of Php 25.8 million.

Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD) were issued against the shipments consigned to JKJ International Co. for violation of Department of Agriculture Administrative Order (DAO) No. 18 series of 2000 and DA Department Circular No. 4 series of 2016; in relation to Section 1113 (f) of the Republic Act (RA) No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Subsequently, WSD were issued against shipments consigned to EMV Consumer Goods Trading for violation of the Sugar Regulatory Administration and Bureau of Customs Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2004, in relation to Section 1113 (f) of the RA 10863 or CMTA.

Martin extends her appreciation to partner agencies like DA, PDEA, SBMA, NICA, DTI, among others, for their unending support and cooperation with the Port of Subic.

Martin and her team vowed that the Port will remain vigilant against unscrupulous importers especially during this Holiday Season.
