To further strengthen the relationship and establish a deeper understanding between the agency and its stakeholders, the Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc. (CCBI) initiated an online forum in coordination with BOC through the Manila International Container Port (MICP) last November 12, 2021. The virtual conference also served as a platform to address congestion in the said Port.
Said forum was conducted via Zoom Teleconference and broadcasted live on the official Facebook page of CCBI; moderated by the CCBI Treasurer, Jill L. Tolentino, and CCBI Bicol Chapter President Mary Joy T. Lopez. Multi-faceted resource speakers Atty. Edward James A. Dy Buco, Deputy Commissioner for Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group (AOCG), Director Bienvenido Rubio of the Port Operations Service (POS), Acting District Collector Romeo Allan R. Rosales of MICP, and Dr. Siegfred L. Manaois, Chief of Piers and Inspection Division of the Port served as resource speakers. Moreover, various stakeholders from across private entities joined the said webinar.
Deputy Commissioner Atty. Dy Buco initially discussed the procedures for the examination of goods at the MICP-DEA and the steps of the Bureau in terms of trade facilitation and expediting the release of goods to prevent port congestion. The discussion was subsequently followed by an interactive exchange from the stakeholders, ultimately raising their questions relative to the examination and release of their shipments. These questions were eventually given light and answered by speakers.
In his statement, Acting District Collector Rosales reiterated that to seamlessly examine the goods and facilitate the release of shipments, the examiners of the Port are rendering a 24hour shifting schedule of the MICP Inspection Unit from 6:00 AM–3:00 PM, 3:00 PM–10:00 PM and 10:00 PM- 6:00 AM from Mondays to Sundays.
BOC, through MICP, in coordination with other collection districts and private entities, remains committed to further laying down strategies to provide efficient and modern ways to facilitate trade, prevent congestion in the Port, and expedite the release of shipments for the stakeholders.
