Smuggled Agricultural Products Worth 15 Million Pesos Seized At Mindanao Container Terminal Port

July 8, 2022

Bureau of Customs, through the joint efforts of the Port of Cagayan de Oro and the Intelligence Group, seized five (5) containers of smuggled agricultural products as a result of the physical examination conducted at Mindanao International Container Terminal Services Inc. (MICTSI) yard at the PHIVIDEC Compound, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on July 7, 2022.

The shipments consigned to Primex Export and Import Producer which arrived from China on July 02, 2022 were declared as “Autolysed Yeast in Powder Form”.

On July 04, 2022, District Collector Atty. Elvira Cruz issued Pre-Lodgement Control Orders (PLCOs) against the shipments through the request of CIIS CDO Field Station upon receipt of derogatory information from the Intelligence Division-Intelligence Group.

Contrary to its declaration, the shipments were found to contain red onions, white onions, and carrots which is a clear violation of Republic Act 10863 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act for misdeclaration of goods. The smuggled goods are estimated to worth P 15,000,000.00 pesos.

The conduct of physical examination was witnessed by Atty. Elvira Cruz, District Collector; Atty. Marietta D. Zamoranos, MCT Port Collector; Elizabeth Delas Llagas, Deputy Collector for Operations; Oliver Valiente, Chief, CIIS CDO; SP/Lt. Arkhan Macaombang, Deputy Commander, ESS CDO and CCBI representative.
