SURIGAO CITY – Customs officers and staff in Surigao Port and subports of Nasipit and Bislig, headed by District Collector Atty. Maria Liza T. Sebastian, attended a joint flag-raising ceremony on Monday, June 18 at Surigao Customshouse to commemorate Surigao Port 52nd anniversary.

A thanksgiving mass was offered for this purpose and many came from the partner agencies and stakeholders to share this historic moment. It may be recalled that Surigao as a port of entry was created by act of congress approving Republic Act numbered 4811on June 18, 1966.

In a short program that followed, Collector Sebastian expressed deepest thanks to the partner agencies and especially to the business community and importers for their invaluable support towards revenue generation in this part of the country. Special mention and plaques of recognitions were accorded to the top local importers, such as Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation. Flecs Enterprises and NGC Trading.

“I express profusely my gratitude to our stakeholders — the importers and exporters who have helped us a lot in generating the duties and taxes due the government,” said Collector Sebastian.

52 years from inception, the principal Port of Surigao along with its two subports in Nasipit (Agusan del Sur) and Bislig (Surigao del Sur) have continued making its presence felt in the local community.

Meanwhile, the following day Tuesday, June 19 which coincided with a local holiday “Adlaw nan Surigao”, the Customs men and women in full force paid a visit to the abandoned children and delinquent youths housed temporarily in social welfare facilities in nearby barangay Anomar. On this visit, these children were treated with free meals and given school supplies and hygiene kits. (BoC-Surigao News)
