WEEKLY REPORT JULY 24-28, 2017

Aiming to equip personnel of the Bureau with relevant and up-to-date information about Philippine industries and existing laws on standards, the Philippine Association of Black Iron and Galvanized Iron (BI-GI) Pipes and Tubes Manufacturers, Inc. facilitated an Industry Awareness Program through a seminar held last July 20 at the port’s Conference Room.

The Industry Awareness Program intends to assist the Bureau in learning significant information about Philippines industries. The BI-GI Pipes Association commenced such program by providing efficient knowledge regarding the steel industry.

The seminar emphasized the role of customs in identifying substandard and standard steel pipes, use of proper description of goods, correct determination of Harmonized System (HS) code and its role in preventing technical smuggling of such goods.

Also highlighted in the seminar are the rules and regulations defining the responsibilities and liabilities of manufacturers and importers with regards to the mandatory product certifications and markings needed to meet the requisites under Philippine National Standards.

All information acquired from such activity will greatly benefit customs personnel and will surely aid in the conduct of their duties and functions in the Bureau.
