1. ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS OR CONDITIONS ON IMPORTATION OF PETS (OR OTHER LIVE ANIMALS) AND HOUSEHOLD PLANTS?

Yes. The importation of live animals and plants is regulated. Hence, permit/s and/or clearance/s must be secured from the concerned government regulatory agency so that these may be allowed for entry in the Philippines.

2. WHAT PERMIT/S OR CLEARANCE/S IS/ARE REQUIRED WHEN IMPORTING PETS?

An international veterinary health certificate must be obtained from the competent authority of the country of origin. In addition, a Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance (SPSIC) must be secured from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) before importation.
Pets and other live animals arriving without the required international veterinary health certificate and SPSIC shall be seized, confiscated or refused admission.

3. HOW ABOUT WHEN IMPORTING LIVE PLANTS? WHAT PERMIT/S OR CLEARANCE/S IS/ARE REQUIRED?

An international phytosanitary certificate must be obtained from the competent authority of the country of origin. In addition, a Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance (SPSIC) must be secured from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) before importation.
Live plants arriving without the required international phytosanitary certificate and SPSIC shall be seized, confiscated or refused admission.
