Customs Authorities Intercept P5.548M Worth of Shabu Hidden in Toys

March 7, 2025

In support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) through Port of Clark, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), successfully intercepted 816 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or “Shabu,” with an estimated street value of PhP5,548,800.00. The shipment originated from Los Angeles, California, and was bound for Cagayan de Oro City.

The operation stemmed from derogatory information provided by PDEA, leading customs authorities to examine 10 pieces of toys—one (1) surprise egg toy and nine (9) kinetic sand toys. Inside each toy were vacuum-sealed pouches containing a white crystalline substance, suspected to be illegal narcotics.

Samples were taken and turned over to the PDEA for chemical analysis, which confirmed the substance as Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under R.A. No. 9165, as amended.

Port of Clark District Collector Jairus S. Reyes emphasized the importance of strong partnerships with other law enforcement agencies in enhancing national security and preventing the smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband.

The success of this operation is a result of the coordinated and strategic efforts of the Port of Clark – Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group, the National Bureau of Investigation – Pampanga District Office, the Department of Justice, and local officials from Brgy. Dau, Mabalacat City.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention will be issued against the shipment for violating Section 118(g), Section 119(d), and Section 1113 paragraphs (f), (i), and (l) of R.A. No. 10863, or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), in relation to R.A. No. 9165.

Meanwhile, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio emphasized the importance of strengthening border protection and preventing illicit trade, thereby enhancing national security and safeguarding the welfare of the Filipino people. He also underscored the BOC’s firm resolve in fulfilling its mandate of collecting lawful revenues while ensuring that the welfare and safety of the Filipino people remain a top priority. ###
