Cagayan De Oro Seizes Smuggled Red Onion Declared As “Margarine”

December 3, 2021

Two containers of smuggled red onions were seized anew by the Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) in Mindanao Container Terminal Sub-Port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental last Dec 1, 2021. The shipment was declared as “margarine” from China consigned to Humility Trading.

After receiving intelligence information regarding the smuggled shipment, Oliver Valiente, Chief of CIIS CDO requested Atty. Elvira Cruz, District Collector of the Port, to issue an Alert Order against the shipment.

Upon physical examination by the Customs Examiner witnessed by representatives of CIIS, ESS, XIP, CCBI, and PDEA-10 the shipment declared as “margarine” turned out to be smuggled red onions without Sanitary Phytosanitary Import Clearance from the Department of Agriculture.

The onions which were estimated to be worth Php 6,000,000.00.00 will be subject to the issuance of Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD).

Since August of this year, Port of CDO has intensified its anti-smuggling operations against agricultural products and has since seized 200 million pesos worth of smuggled onions.
