As part of the Bureau of Customs’ mandate to protect the country’s borders, BOC-NAIA yesterday January 06, 2020 intercepted Kush weeds and liquid marijuana with an estimated street value of Php 200,000 at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.
The shipment was identified to have originated from California, USA and was declared as “one pair of shoes and chocolate”. Upon examination, the parcel was found to contain four (4) packs of suspected kush weeds and ten (10) cartridges of liquid marijuana.
The parcel was intercepted by Customs NAIA in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG)
Authorities suspected the presence of prohibited substances due to the scent emitted by the parcel. Previous apprehensions of marijuana were observed to have the same scent raising suspicion that the same was present in the parcel.
The alleged consignee who was identified as a certain Xavier Martin Bulos from Sampaloc, Manila was arrested while claiming the parcel and shall face charges for violation of RA 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization Tariff Act.
