BOC-XIP Elevates Operational Performance in 2021

As the Bureau of Customs (BOC) strengthens its operational performance through enhanced trade facilitation, improved revenue collection, and intensified border protection, the X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) continued to generate significant contributions to the overall performance of the Bureau for the year 2021.

In 2020, the BOC had a total of 513,474 scanned containers from January to December. However in 2021, the BOC increased its total to 847,950 scanned containers under the same timeline, achieving a 65% increase and boosting its scanning rate performance as compared to the previous year.

Utilizing 124 x-ray machines and with the deployment of four (4) additional newly procured machines, the BOC was also able to collect increased additional revenues. In 2020, Php100,604,244.73 duties and taxes were collected through the help of the XIP. Meanwhile in 2021, a total of Php113,721,158.80 was collected, accounting for a 13% increase in its collection.

Moreover, the XIP also facilitated the apprehension of illegal drugs and various smuggled commodities with an estimated street value of Php363,130,812.77 in 2021.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the BOC stays committed in working effectively to minimize unnecessary delays in trade and to collect appropriate revenue for the government while securing the nation’s borders, especially during the ongoing pandemic.
