BOC Port of Davao, Naval Forces Seize PHP 1.9M Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes

Through intensified land and maritime surveillance activity, the Bureau of Customs-Port of Davao through Sub-port of Dadiangas and the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) seized forty (40) boxes of Indonesian made Gudang Baru smuggled cigarettes worth Php 1.9 million on October 24, 2021. The illicit goods were loaded in a motorized banca at the waters of Glan, Saranggani Bay.

The seized cigarettes were taken into custody by the Enforcement and Security Service and the two (2) crews namely Mr. Sandy Sawotong and Mr. Edison Pareda, both of legal age and a resident of Brgy. Calumpang, General Santos City were detained for further investigation.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was already issued against the smuggled items for violation of Section 1113 of Republic Act No. 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

BOC Davao led by District Collector Atty. Erastus Sandino B. Austria continues to strengthen ties with partner agencies for the proper enforcement of customs laws.
