The Port of Batangas turned over one (1) unit Husqvarna Chainsaw to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources CENRO Lipa on 11 July 2022.
Primitivo A. Buagas and Flordeliza M. Olave from the DENR Lipa attended the turnover conducted by the Auction and Cargo Disposal Unit of the Port.
The shipment arrived at the Port of Batangas last 22 June 2021 on board the vessel MV ANDROUSA 123N which originated from France and was declared as personal effects. However, physical examination conducted by the assigned examiner yielded an undeclared chainsaw without necessary permit from DENR.
District Collector Atty. Ma. Rhea M. Gregorio issued the Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment pursuant to Section 117 and 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, in relation to Republic Act 9175 also known as “Chain Saw Act of 2002”. And the same was forfeited due to claimant’s failure to overcome the burden of proof during the forfeiture proceedings.
Port of Batangas headed by District Collector Gregorio assures the public that the Port will continue its vigilance to ensure that the country’s borders are protected, entry of prohibited goods are prevented, and any act of smuggling is suppressed.
