BOC-NAIA intercepts shabu declared as documents

July 12, 2024

As part of the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) intensified anti-illegal drug campaign, the BOC – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), intercepted an outbound cargo containing Methamphetamine Hydrochloride also known as “shabu”, falsely declared as documents.

The shipment, originating from Muntinlupa City and bound for Italy, raised suspicion during routine scanning procedures. Upon physical examination, authorities uncovered twenty (20) sachets of suspected shabu concealed inside seven (7) small plastic packs, totaling approximately 100 grams with an estimated street value of PhP680,000 thousand.

BOC-NAIA promptly turned over the confiscated drugs to PDEA for further investigation and to initiate legal proceedings against those involved in this illegal trade, in violation of RA 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio affirmed, “The BOC remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the Philippines against all forms of smuggling and illicit trade.”

Under the leadership of its District Collector, Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa, BOC-NAIA continues to strengthen border protection measures to combat illegal activities. #
