In furtherance of its mission to strengthen efforts against illicit trade, a composite team of the Bureau of Customs-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (BOC-CIIS), Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), and the Philippine Coast Guard-Task Force Aduana (PCG-TFA), conducted an inspection supported by a Letter of Authority (LOA) at a motor service center in Makati City on February 14, 2025. The operation uncovered 16 luxury vehicles and one high-end motorcycle, valued at approximately PhP366 million, suspected to be smuggled.
Prior to the implementation of the LOA, the BOC coordinated with local Barangay officials and police stations to ensure smooth execution of the operation. The operation led to the successful discovery of various luxury vehicles and a high-end motorcycle from renowned brands, including Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and McLaren, among others.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has consistently emphasized the need for stronger enforcement against illegal activities that undermine the nation’s economy. In support to the President’s directive, the BOC remains active in countering smuggling and strengthening border control measures, ensuring the collection of taxes due to the government, while protecting legitimate businesses from unfair competition.
The BOC team temporarily secured the held vehicles by placing padlocks and seals on the premises and has coordinated with the Land Transportation Office to determine whether the vehicles were registered to confirm their legitimacy and assess their legal status.
The owner, representative, or any responsible party of the facility has 15 days to submit the necessary documentation to verify the proper payment of duties and taxes.
Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio emphasized, “The BOC will not tolerate smuggling and illegal trade, and this operation signals our intensified enforcement and vigilance measures. We will continue to take robust actions to sweep away those who exploit our borders for unlawful trade practices.”
