BOC Establishes Customs Firearms and Explosives Unit

The Bureau of Customs established the Customs Firearms and Explosives Unit (CFEU) through the issuance of Customs Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 27-2022.

The CFEU is an ad interim unit that will effectively monitor the importation and exportation of firearms and major/minor parts thereof, accessories, ammunition, and controlled chemicals used in manufacturing ammunition, firecrackers, and explosives under Presidential Decree No. 1866.

It also covers the implementation of policies and procedures relative to Republic Act No. 10591 or the “Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions and Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof.”

Selected personnel of the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) assigned at the 17 ports of entry will be assigned as contact persons to coordinate and work closely with the CFEU in the accomplishment of the unit’s objectives.

In addition, the CFEU will ensure an effective working relationship with other government law enforcement agencies for efficient and effective Firearms and Explosives control.

The newly created unit will be under the direct supervision of the ESS-Enforcement Group (EG).The creation of the CFEU is part of the seven (7) priority programs of BOC under the leadership of Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz, in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to stop smuggling in the country while ensuring the safety and welfare of the public.
