DAVAO CITY – Customs Collection District XII, together with the Naval Forces, seized illegally imported cigarettes worth PHP 18.25 Million Pesos during a joint maritime patrol on July 9, 2023 around 10:30 pm in the vicinity of Brgy. Camudmud, Island Garden City of Samal.
Aboard the jungkung, a motorized wooden boat, were 23,400 reams of illicit cigarettes and 10 crew members, who were later turned over to the Sasa Police Station for booking and filing of appropriate charges.
District Collector Guillermo Pedro A. Francia IV issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the boat, and the cargo on board which will be disposed of pursuant to prevailing Customs laws, rules and regulations.
“This operation reflects our unwavering commitment in combating illegal activities and ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. We will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt the illegal tobacco trade and protect our communities from its harmful effects”, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio said.
This enforcement action demonstrates Customs Collection District XII’s commitment in safeguarding our borders and protecting public health. Illegal cigarettes not only pose a significant threat to our economy but also jeopardize the well-being of consumers.
