BOC-CIIS marks 38th year of service with cash donation to build schools, bridges

January 31, 2025

The Bureau of Customs-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (BOC-CIIS) marked the celebration of its 38th founding anniversary on Monday, Jan. 27, with a ceremonial donation to the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF).

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy, and CIIS Director Verne Enciso led the turnover of the cash donation, which will be used to build schools and bridges in calamity-stricken areas, especially in Camarines Sur.

The donation came on the heels of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for government agencies to forego extravagant holiday celebrations in favor of aiding Filipinos affected by calamities.

“This generous contribution was made even more meaningful by the selfless gesture of IG personnel, who voluntarily pooled a portion of their Christmas bonuses to support the cause,” Rubio said.

“This is a testament not only to the success of the CIIS in supporting national security efforts, economic integrity, and border protection, but also to their commitment of being one with their fellow Filipinos as many communities and areas face unimaginable challenges in light of the natural disasters that struck us last year,” the Commissioner added.

The donation was formally received by GMAKF Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rikki Escudero Catibog, who expressed gratitude to the BOC.

A key highlight of the program was the recognition of top-performing offices under the intelligence group.

Director Enciso, who was one of the awardees, received special commendations for the outstanding contributions and tireless efforts of IG personnel and agents who exemplify the agency’s core values.

Manila Field Station chief Alvin Enciso of the CIIS-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP) was also commended by the bureau for ranking Overall Best Field Station Office after achieving P60.5 billion worth of seized contraband and anti-social goods.

Reflecting in the achievements of the CIIS in combatting smuggling, Commissioner Rubio noted its record-breaking P85.167 billion worth of confiscated goods in 2024.

“For nearly four decades, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) has been in the frontlines, serving as the intelligence and investigation arm of the Bureau of Customs,” he said.

“In 2024 alone, the Bureau of Customs apprehended a total of 85.167 billion pesos worth of smuggled goods – another record-breaking and unprecedented anti-smuggling accomplishment in the history of the Bureau of Customs.”

He, however, underscored the need for continued vigilance in light of the emerging practices utilized by criminal organizations.

“We anticipate the same or an even better performance from our CIIS. Recognizing that the challenges we face are evolving, we must reinforce our anti-smuggling drive, bearing in mind that safeguarding our society is paramount,” the Commissioner stressed.

With its legacy of excellence and service, as well as its support of President Marcos’ vision of a Bagong Pilipinas, BOC-CIIS remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the nation and uplifting communities in need.
