BOC-NAIA Uncovers Abandoned Parcels Containing Illegal Drugs Worth Php16 Million

June 20, 2025

The Bureau of Customs (BOC), through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), uncovered several inbound parcels containing an estimated Php16,326,200 worth of illegal drugs at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC). This operation is part of the agency’s intensified border protection efforts and supports the national government’s campaign against illegal drugs, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Led by the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 3,025 grams of Ketamine valued at Php15,125,000 and 858 grams of high-grade Marijuana Kush worth Php1,201,200.

One parcel from the United States contained 240 grams of Marijuana or “kush,” another from Thailand with 618 grams of kush, both concealed in boxes. While the parcel from Poland hid five plastic bags of Ketamine inside a coffee maker.

The subject parcels underwent x-ray scanning, where suspicious images were detected, prompting a physical examination. During the inspection, authorities uncovered the illegal substances hidden within the packages.

No one claimed the subject parcels thru the filling of corresponding Goods Declaration within the 30 day reglementary period and accordingly deemed impliedly abandoned.

The subject parcels were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on June 19, 2025, for proper disposition and laboratory examination, including case building against personalities behind the foiled importation attempt for possible violations of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

District Collector Yasmin O. Mapa emphasized the critical role of intelligence and collaboration in seizing contrabands. “These operations reflect our commitment to proactive enforcement and coordination with our law enforcement counterparts in stopping illegal drugs at the border,” she said.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, the BOC continues to strengthen its border protection and drug interdiction capabilities. “This accomplishment underscores our vigilance and unwavering resolve to protect our communities from the dangers of illegal drugs. It is the result of sustained coordination, alertness, and a shared commitment to safeguarding our people, in alignment with President Marcos’ national anti-drug strategy,” Commissioner Rubio said.
