BOC-NAIA Seizes PhP97.89 million Worth of Shabu, Apprehends Passengers

January 20, 2025

The Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) intercepted 14,396 grams of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, or shabu, valued at PhP97,892,800 at NAIA Terminal 3 on January 16, 2025.

A meticulous inspection involving x-ray scanning, K9 assistance, and a thorough physical examination led to the discovery of the illegal drugs which were concealed inside the luggage of two South African nationals who arrived from Dubai.

The operation was conducted in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG). The seized drugs and arrested suspects were turned over to PDEA for further investigation and legal proceedings for violations of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as amended) and Republic Act No. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio commended the Port’s unwavering resolve to combat smuggling and illicit activities, stating: “Your continuous dedication in enhancing the border control measures at the airport underscores our commitment in ensuring the safety of the Filipino people. We will remain vigilant and proactive in our efforts against all forms of illegal trade.”

Under the leadership of District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa, BOC-NAIA, in collaboration with its partner agencies, continues to implement robust measures to prevent the smuggling of illegal drugs and other contraband into the country. #
