BOC Facilitates UAE Aid to the Philippines for Typhoon Carina Victims

July 31, 2024

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated one (1) cargo flight loaded with assorted goods to the Philippines to assist those severely affected by Super Typhoon Carina and the ongoing Habagat season. The generous donation arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 yesterday, July 30, 2024, and was seamlessly facilitated by the Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA).

The donation was formally received by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Department of Internal Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. The UAE was represented by Ambassador H.E. Mohammed Obaid Alqattam Alzaabi. Also in attendance during the turnover was Special Envoy to the UAE for Trade and Investment Anna Kathryna Yu Pimentel.

DSWD Secretary Gatchalian expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the Philippine government and the Filipino people.

The donation included essential food products, which will be distributed to local government units (LGUs) and their constituents in the hardest-hit areas.

The BOC-NAIA, under the leadership of District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa, played a crucial role in ensuring the seamless facilitation and release of the donation. Their efficient handling of customs procedures guaranteed that the goods were processed and turned over to the receiving agencies without delay, exemplifying their commitment to swift and effective service during times of crisis.

District Collector Mapa stated, “The Port is dedicated to ensuring that all humanitarian aid is processed and released without delay. We understand the urgency of the situation and have prioritized the swift clearance of these donations to help those in need as quickly as possible.”

This generous aid from the UAE underscores the importance of international cooperation and support in times of crisis, and the Philippines is immensely grateful for this timely and valuable assistance.
