BOC-MICP Intercepts PhP29,499,400-M worth KUSH Marijuana, Misdeclared as Household Items and motor parts

April 25, 2024

The Bureau of Customs (BOC), through the Manila International Container Port (MICP), has intercepted a shipment from Thailand that contained dried marijuana, also known as kush, with an estimated value of approximately PhP 29,499,400.00.

Following derogatory information reported by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) led by Field Station Chief Alvin Enciso at MICP together with representatives from Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan authorized an X-ray examination and a comprehensive 100% physical examination of the suspected shipment.

The examination, conducted on 19 April 2024, uncovered approximately 21,071 grams of dried marijuana or kush, valued at PhP 29,499,400.00. This importation of marijuana or kush constitutes a violation of Republic Act No. 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as well as Sections 119, 1400, and 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Further verification and investigation are being currently conducted to probe for the presence of illicit substances and other prohibited items potentially concealed inside the additional boxes included in the subject shipment.

Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio commended the hard work and swift action taken by BOC operatives. He stated, “The success of this operation is due to the diligence of our dedicated officers in the bureau. I would like to commend MICP led by District Collector Talusan for their collective efforts and unwavering commitment in safeguarding our borders and protect the welfare of our citizens against the harmful effects of illegal drugs.”
