In line with the strengthened campaign of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) against illegal drugs, BOC-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), apprehended a passenger found with cocaine concealed inside her luggage.
The Filipino passenger arrived on August 24, 2023 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from Addis Abiba via Ethiopian Airlines ET 664.
The passenger’s luggage underwent rigorous screening, including x-ray scanning, K9 inspection, and a thorough physical examination. The examination revealed 3,454 grams of cocaine concealed inside the luggage, with an estimated value of Php18,306,200.00 as confirmed by PDEA.
Violations of Republic Act No. 9165, known as the Comprehensive Drug Act, and Republic Act No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) will be filed against the passenger.
Under the leadership of District Collector Yasmin O. Mapa, the BOC NAIA remains committed in protecting the national borders and continues to enhance coordination efforts with partner agencies in line with Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio’s directives and priority programs.#
