BOC Seizes Php54 Million Worth of Counterfeit Goods in Quiapo

November 16, 2021

The Bureau of Customs (BOC), through the Port of Manila-District Office (POM-DO), Intellectual Property Rights Division–Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (IPRD-CIIS) under the Intelligence Group, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, implemented the Letter of Authority (LOA) issued by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero against warehouses located at the 7th floor QQ Mall, Quiapo, Manila on November 15, 2021.

Upon further inspection of the target warehouses, the BOC–PCG composite team discovered various items bearing known registered trademarks such as Regatta, Penshoppe, Oxygen / Oxgn, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, and Prada to name a few.

The items found with an estimated value of Php54,000,000 were seized due to possible violation of Section 118 (f) of the RA 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and RA 8293, otherwise known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (IPCP).

The implementation of the LOA stemmed from the complaint of the company Golden ABC, Inc., the registered brand owner of Regatta, Penshoppe, and Oxygen / Oxgn that informed about the subject facility which stores counterfeit articles bearing their trademarks.

The Bureau of Customs will remain steadfast in its mandate to suppress smuggling and in protecting Intellectual Property Rights to safeguard public interest against health hazards posed by smuggled goods.
