As part of its intensified anti-smuggling efforts, the Bureau of Customs – Port of Cebu seized forty-five (45) packages of used computer LED monitors, used laptops, and processors worth Php3,040,548.64 on February 15, 2022. The misdeclaration/undeclaration of the goods resulted to a discrepancy in taxes and other charges amounting to Php306,974.73—five times the tax payable based on the importer’s declared value.

Declared to only contain computer LED monitors, an Alert Order was issued against the shipment based on a derogatory information from the Intelligence Group that the shipment contains undeclared items.

Customs Examiner, Diadem Clare A. Salinas, conducted a 100% physical examination of the shipment with the representatives from the CIIS, Enforcement and Security Service, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Chamber of Customs Brokers Inc.-Cebu Chapter. The examination confirmed the presence of undeclared items.

District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza immediately issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention against the shipment after finding probable cause for violation of Section 1113 (F), (I), and (L-3, 4, and 5) in relation to Sections 117 and 1400 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Importers and customs brokers are reminded to properly and completely declare their importation to avoid seizure of goods and suspension or cancellation of accreditation.
