BOC Busts P45M Worth of Ukay-Ukay, Various Counterfeit Goods

Bureau of Customs, through the Intelligence Group, seized various ukay-ukay and Intellectual Property Rights infringing goods estimated to be worth P45,000,000 million in Baltao, Paranaque on March 19, 2022.

A Letter of Authority (LOA) and Mission Order was issued by the Commissioner of Customs against the owners, representatives, or whoever is in possession of the imported goods stored at the said location.

Upon arrival, the implementing team explained the purpose and provisions of the LOA to the representatives of the warehouses. This led to the initial inspection revealing an estimated quantity of 3,300 bales of “ukay-ukay” and other illicit personal apparel bearing brands of Crocs, Adidas, and Nike, among others.

The “ukay-ukay” was assessed with an estimated value of P25,000,000, while the alleged illicit personal apparel was assessed with an estimated value of P15-20 million.

The warehouses were padlocked and sealed while the full inventory of the goods is underway.

The goods shall be subject to seizure and forfeiture proceedings in violation of Section 118 of R.A. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to R.A. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of 1997 and R.A. 4653 or the Act Prohibiting the Commercial Importation of Textile Articles Commonly Known as Used Clothing and Rags.
