Officers of the Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday intercepted three parcels of illegal drugs valued at P14.7 million.

According to reports from the Port of NAIA, one outbound parcel in DHL Warehouse contained 300 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride (HCL), popularly known as shabu, concealed inside a wall sticker.

Two other inbound parcels at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) contained Ecstasy hidden inside cartons and bed sheets.

The successful interception was part of the BOC-NAIA’s strengthened anti-illegal drug campaign and regular coordination with PDEA and its K9 unit.

The outbound shipment was declared house decor (wall sticker) and subjected to X-ray inspection, which later showed white crystalline substances. It was later verified to be shabu valued at least P2.04 million.

The second shipment inbound at CMEC was declared “women’s and baby wear gift,” but it turned out to be Ecstasy worth P8.9 million. The last shipment, which was undeclared, was also confirmed to have Ecstasy, valued at P3.8 million.

According to the Port of NAIA, further investigation is underway to arrest those behind the illegal trade for possible violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act and RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization And Tariff Act (CMTA).

Customs Commissioner Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz and the BOC-NAIA, headed by District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan, said they remain committed to increase revenue collection, improve trade facilitation, and strengthen border protection.
