Significant Events/Activities:
June 1, 2018: District Collector, Arsenia C. Ilagan, attended the Port Management Advisory Council (PMAC), Meeting for 2nd Quarter CY 2018, organized by Philippine Ports Authority Legazpi. The said meeting was attended by other local agency partners and stakeholders to discuss the coordination processes and other concerns in the Port.
Collector Ilagan delivered a 10-minute presentation on the concerns regarding PPA port procedures viz-a-viz BOC’s enforcement of customs and tariff laws. Her presentation consisted of a brief overview of BOC and its core functions. She was able to discuss the issues and concerns of the Port of Legazpi on the validation of unauthorized foreign vessel arrivals at the different sub-ports of the region, promoting inter-agency support and coordination, especially that Legazpi customs has no sufficient manpower assigned at these sub-ports. Since the ports cater only bulk and break bulk cargoes, she expressed that hope for the information and coordination on arrivals of all vessels engaged in international trade for proper disposition and collection of lawful revenues. It is also of great concern if PPA’s future course of action shall include the accommodation of containerized vessels which the PPA greatly supported with a hope that it will materialize in the near future. Before the open forum, Collector Ilagan also briefly discussed the operational processes and procedures being observed by the respective personnel assigned on the boarding of foreign vessel in coordination with other government agencies and private entities for the benefit of the stakeholders and others concerned.
