January 14, 2023

Government agents have intercepted a shipment declared as “snacks” from Nigeria containing shabu with an estimated street value of P89.590 million.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) arrested the consignee during a controlled delivery operation on January 11 in Las Pinas City.

Upon physical examination of the parcel, it contained 3,175 grams of a white crystalline substance.

A PDEA laboratory test confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

The PDEA is conducting a custodial investigation of the arrested claimant for an eventual inquest proceeding for violation of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Anti-illegal Drugs Act, and RA 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization Act (CMTA).

The BOC Port of NAIA, headed by District Collector Carmelita Talusan, remains committed to protecting the country against the entry of illegal goods as directed by Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz.

The port will also intensify vigilance to prevent smuggling attempts in the borders aligned with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. #
