TUV SUD Asia Pacific Awards ISO 9001:2015 Certification to Subport of Dumaguete

The BOC Subport of Dumaguete was formally awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Certification by TüvSüd Asia Pacific in a virtual awarding ceremony held last Monday—officially making it the first Subport in the country to be ISO certified.

The activity was attended by BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the Deputy Commissioners and District Collectors, Subport Collector of Dumaguete Fe Lluelyn G. Toring, and customs personnel from the Subport. TüvSüd Asia Pacific Business Development Manager Rustan V. Torre awarded the certificate.

The ISO 9001:2015 Certification is an international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system. Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

“We owe this accomplishment to the hardwork and perseverance of each customs personnel in the Subport of Dumaguete. We thank Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero and Deputy Commissioner Donato B. San Juan, Internal Administration Group (IAG) for spearheading the ISO certification of customs offices as one of the 10-Point Priority Programs of the Bureau. This program has indeed allowed us to demonstrate our ability to consistently provide services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Further, our gratitude goes to the Internal Quality Management Systems Office (IQMSO) headed by MGen Leandro A. Loyao III (Ret.), and to the Port of Cebu District Collector Atty. Charlito Martin R. Mendoza, for the support and constant coordination throughout our ISO journey since 2019. This recognition is dedicated to us all – and may this distinction of being the third customs office and the first subport to be ISO certified serve as our drive to continue the delivery of a modernized and credible customs service that is among the world’s best.”, said Port Collector Toring.

To recall, the Subport passed the External Audit last March 2, 2020 where the review focused on its management system documented information and evaluation of site-specific conditions. The Final Audit was conducted on December 1, 2020 where the Subport was found to have fulfilled the requirements, hence, recommended for ISO certification. TüvSüd Management Service, a German auditing and certification service provider, conducted the audits to determine Dumaguete’s conformity to the ISO standards.

ISO certification of customs units and offices is part of the initiatives of Commissioner Guerrero to streamline the processes of the Bureau of Customs to provide more efficient services to its stakeholders.
