BOC-Port of Aparri Destroys Six Fake Cigarette-making Machines
As part of the continuing efforts of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to curb the proliferation of smuggled and counterfeit items in the country, the BOC-Port of Aparri destroyed six cigarette-making machines on 13 October 2021 at Greenleaf 88 Waste Disposal and Management Facility, Barangay Mitla, Porac, Pampanga.
Among those who were present were BOC-Port of Aparri Condemnation Committee Chairman, District Collector Arienito M. Claveria and committee members: Special Lieutenant Robert S. Espinosa, Intelligence Officer II Jasper Paul Cleto, and Special Agent I Ricardo P. Basilio, Jr. who all witnessed the shredding, dismantling, and crushing of the confiscated machines that fabricate fake cigarettes.
Also destroyed during the said activity were eight rolls of foil wrap, one roll of tipping paper, 15 rolls of white paper, 400 hundred rolls of plastic wrap, ten rolls of Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. tape, and seven rolls of Mighty tape.
The said illicit items were seized on 02 September 2020 by virtue of BOC-Port of Aparri Seizure Identification Order No. 004-2020 issued by District Collector Claveria for violations committed against Sections 118 (g), 224 and 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to Articles IV and V of the Amended Rules and Regulations Governing the Exportation and Importation of Leaf Tobacco and Tobacco Products Series of 2005.
The BOC-Port of Aparri, under the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, vows to continue its commitment to protect the nation’s borders against smuggling and other illicit trades.
