BOC-NAIA, PDEA, NAIA IADITG Seize Php 6.5 Million Worth of Ecstasy Tablets Concealed in Tarpaulin Sheets
As a result of the vigilance of BOC examiners and strengthened cooperation between the Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA (BOC-NAIA), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and NAIA Inter-agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, another shipment of ecstasy tablets from Germany was seized and turned over to PDEA today, October 13, 2021, at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City .
Initial examination of the parcel revealed 2 improvised pouches which contained a total of 3,865 hexagon tablets and skull tablets later verified and confirmed as ecstasy tablets. The tablets were estimated to have a market value of Php6,570,500.00.
The seized illegal drugs are now under the custody of PDEA for case profiling and build up against persons responsible, and possible prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002 (Republic Act No. 9165) in relation to Section 119 (Restricted Importation) and Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation) of Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
Just last week, BOC NAIA, PDEA, and NAIA IADITG nabbed claimant of 100 pcs. of ecstasy tablets worth 170,000 sent via letter in Central Post Office Manila.
Despite significant increase of inbound parcels and e-commerce goods being processed daily, the Bureau of Customs Port of NAIA remain vigilant in performing its duty of border protection under the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.
