The Bureau of Customs arrested on 28 November a female Russian national at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for carrying 12,781.90 grams of high-grade cocaine in her luggage.

Anastasha Novopashina, 32 years old, was apprehended following joint operations of the Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, Enforcement Security Service – NAIA, Customs Investigation and Intelligence Service, Office of the District Collector – NAIA, and NAIA Drug Interdiction Task Group (DITG). She is currently detained at NAIA-DITG holding area for booking and documentation.

The seized drug, estimated to have a street value of P64 million, was turned-over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Laboratory Service for qualitative examination.

BOC authorities started monitoring Novopashina after they received intelligence report from the United States anti-narcotics authorities about the impending arrival of the alleged Russian drug mule. She arrived in the Philippines on board Emirates Air flight EK332 from Sao Paolo Brazil via Dubai.

About P227 million worth of cocaine have been confiscated by the Bureau in eight operations since July. A total of P1.173 billion worth of various types of illegal drugs have been seized since Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon assumed office.

This recent apprehension is the result of the Bureau’s continuous operations to combat illegal drugs, in support of President Rodrigo Duterte’s anti-illegal drugs campaign. ###
